On Friday night, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake shook the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico, according to the nation’s National Seismological Service.
The service posted information about the earthquake’s epicenter near the Oaxacan hamlet of Matias Romero on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter.
More than 500 kilometers distant in Mexico City, a seismic warning went out, forcing dozens of people to leave their homes.
Marti Batres, the mayor of the roughly nine million-person city’s capital, stated on X that “a little tremor was felt” there but that “no damage has been reported so far.
